Skip ads, music and small talk with Suspend
Not everything in a video is worth a lesson. Ad breaks, opening themes, a long stretch of chit-chat before the interview starts — suspend the session for those, and pick up where the good part begins.
Suspend and unsuspend
In the bottom bar of the overlay, between Continue and stop (⏹), is the suspend button (⏸): “Suspend — ignore audio and the spacebar until you unsuspend”. The menu-bar icon has the same thing as Suspend Translation / Resume Translation.
While suspended:
- The status line reads “Suspended — not listening to audio”, and the bar collapses to just Unsuspend and stop.
- Nothing is sent for translation, so nothing is used from your allowance.
- The card that was showing stays on screen, and its replays, redo and chat keep working. Continue is hidden until you unsuspend.
- The Space bar goes back to your player, so you can pause and play the video normally.
- Only Unsuspend (or the menu-bar item) wakes the session — sound alone doesn’t, and neither does the spacebar.
If you suspend in the middle of a sentence, that partial sentence is thrown away — it’s exactly what you wanted to skip — and unsuspending never goes back to translate what played in between.
What the app skips by itself
You don’t need Suspend for every song.
- Music, singing, sound effects and noise are never “translated”. If a stretch of audio has no clear speech, the app drops it and the video resumes on its own.
- Silence is free. After about 30 seconds without sound the session goes into standby — “Paused — waiting for audio” — and stops streaming. The first sound wakes it, and a little audio from just before is kept so the first words aren’t clipped.
Suspend is for the things that are speech but aren’t worth your time or allowance: ads, recaps, sponsor reads, a language you aren’t studying.
